PORTRAITS OF A THERAPY is a project that integrates psychotherapy and photography into a symbolic and visual representation of the therapeutic path.
The project, started in summer 2017, is a collaboration between two psychotherapists and a photographer based on their common interest in figurative imagery that conveys highly personal meanings.
Initially, the therapists represented their own experiences as patients through the use of symbols, which then became figures to be photographed.
The collaborating psychotherapists then sough the involvement of patients concluding the therapeutic path, asking them to perform the same imaginative task. Their objects were photographed in standardized format, establishing an archive of images representing the paths of different people.
What PoT hopes to evoke is not only the meaning of therapeutic pathways through images, but also connections, motifs, or discrepancies between the elaborations of patients and those of their therapists.
The presentation of the archive through an exhibit offers a "public" window into a world that is enigmatic and mysterious—and indeed very private, especially for those who have never experienced it as patients or therapists.
